Step-1 Unplug the Can Opener’s Power Code

First the most important thing you have to do is unplug the electric can opener. This will help you clean the can opener easily and without facing any severe injury.

Step-2 Remove the Blade Bracket

Most of the electric can openers models have removable blade brackets for perfect cleaning. If your blade bracket comes off, then choose another position for lifting it.

After lifting, then you have to detach the bracket. Further, all the models have different procedures for separating the bracket, as they vary according to their size and shape.

For a super process, check the instructions and guidelines carefully given by the brand for your can openers. Moreover, the gears of the can opener can still be washed or cleaned with a toothbrush. (if the bracket is not detachable.)

Step-3 Soak the Blade Bracket 

After removing or detaching the blade bracket of your electric can opener, put your bracket in a bowl and fill it up entirely with white crystal vinegar. Also, make sure that the bracket is fully dipped in the vinegar.

Leave the bowl for 30 to 60 minutes without disturbing or moving it, so the vinegar absorbs and removes all the rust from your can opener.

Note: Some can openers are very rusted, and their gears become unmovable. For that, soak the bracket longer or leave it for one night.

Step-4 Scrub the Gears With a Toothbrush and Vinegar

After soaking the bracket for 30 to 60 minutes, take out the bracket from the bowl and dip a daily use toothbrush in the vinegar. In addition, scrub the movable parts in the blade bracket.

Scrubbing will help to push and remove all the grime from the gears of the bracket. If the bracket is still not moving, then dip the toothbrush in the vinegar for some more time.

When the toothbrush is wholly soaked, scrub it harder from different points until it removes the grime.

Step-5 Scrub the Bracket Again with Soap and Water

After scrubbing the bracket with a toothbrush, clean it again with some dish soap and water. This will help to remove all the germs and rust from the electric can opener more conveniently.

Step-6 Wash the Bracket with Water and Dry it.

For better performance, rewash the blade bracket by dipping it in clean water. Then take out the bracket and dry it with a piece of cloth. It would be better to leave the bracket out in the sun for better drying.

Step-7 Place the Bracket Back onto the opener.

When the bracket becomes completely dry, connect it back onto the can opener. Plug the power code and observe the changes and long lasting.
